Home Design: The Nursery Guide

When you’re expecting a new addition to your family, there are so many wonderful things to look forward to and exciting steps to plan. One of the most enjoyable and important things you can do for your baby is to design their nursery with love and intention. Your baby’s nursery isn’t just their space to sleep, it’s a place for them to spend time with you and slowly grow, learning from their environment and their loving family. Let’s dive in to some expert nursery design tips I’m sure you and your new little one will love!

The rest of your home no doubt has some intentional design, a well-thought-out color palette and style that you’ve developed over time. Your baby’s nursery should seamlessly blend with the rest of your home. It’s perfectly okay to design the nursery as a calming space for you, too! Your nursery should evoke calm and comfortable feelings through a soft neutral palette. While you may want to shy away from overly bold overstimulating colors and designs, don’t be afraid to add in some style, patterns and textures. A painted accent wall, wallpapered ceiling, gallery wall of your favorite photos or removable wall stickers can still blend with the calm vibe you’re creating if chosen wisely. Remember too, that as your baby grows, their room and its design must grow with them.

Choosing soft neutral palettes, and interchangeable decorations will make it easier to develop the nursery’s design as your baby grows!

Your nursery also needs to be practical and functional. Planning out your nursery’s footprint will help you to create zones for efficiency and easy access to things you need most. If you’re tight on space or budget, consider furniture that doubles as storage, or bring in your favorite cozy chair for when you’re spending some quality time with your little one!

Textures are key! Thick soft rugs, and light-blocking drapes, will help you control sound and light for when your baby needs to sleep soundly. They’ll also create a calm cozy play space for when your little one is growing and learning to play!

Watching your newborn grow is one of the most exciting adventures! Your home design can help you build a safe space for them to sleep, play, learn and spend time with family! If you haven’t quite found your dream home yet and plan on needing a nursery, be sure to tell your real estate agent! I’d love to help you find the perfect home for you and your family!
